Attorney Biographies


Warren Nerz received his Bachelor of Science Degree from Manhattan College in Riverdale, New York in 1977, followed by a Master’s Degree in Environmental Engineering and Science from Manhattan College in 1980.  After completing his engineering education, Mr. Nerz worked as a project engineer and project manager for a major construction contractor.  Mr. Nerz’s duties included supervision of construction projects ranging in value from twenty million dollars ($20,000,000) to fifty million dollars ($50,000,000).  Changing his career focus, Mr. Nerz received his J.D. from Indiana University Law School, Indianapolis, Indiana in 1991, and received his license to practice law in October of 1991.  Mr. Nerz’s law practice is concentrated in the areas of construction law, corporate law, commercial litigation, and consumer rights law.


Joe Walterman is an attorney licensed in the State of Indiana.  He received his Bachelor of Arts from Indiana University in Bloomington in history and political science with honors.  He received his J.D. from Indiana University in Bloomington.  Mr. Walterman started his legal practice at a general practice firm in Bloomington and subsequently worked in the field of debtor/creditor law.  In 2006, Mr. Walterman transitioned to the law firm of Nerz & Associates, P.C., and in 2007, he was named partner under the firm, Nerz Walterman, P.C.  Mr. Walterman’s practice focuses on all aspects of civil litigation in state and federal court including bankruptcy law, family law, personal injury law, and consumer protection law including Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and Fair Credit Reporting Act claims.  Mr. Walterman is a member of the Indiana State Bar Association and the Indianapolis Bar Association.  He frequently speaks to attorneys and other professionals on aspects of debtor/creditor law, consumer rights and civil litigation law.  Mr. Walterman has served as a Guardian ad Litem to protect the interests of children in family law cases.


DeAnn Farthing is a life-long resident of Indiana.  She received a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism/Public Relations from Indiana University – Purdue University Indianapolis.  Mrs. Farthing went on to receive her J.D. from Indiana University in Indianapolis.  She joined Nerz Walterman as an Associate in 2011.  Mrs. Farthing’s practice is focused in the areas of creditor’s rights in debt collection cases, estate planning and litigation, elder law, and personal injury.  She desires to educate her clients on how and why to plan for the future in all aspects of life.  She also strives to provide a voice to the injured, elderly, and their families in dealing with medical, insurance, and nursing home issues.


Terry L. English works with Nerz Walterman as of counsel in areas of bankruptcy law.  Terry L. English has been an attorney in Bloomington and Spencer since 1979 and has practiced primarily in the areas of business reorganization and personal bankruptcy. English is a 1979 graduate of the Indiana University School of Law in Bloomington. He earned his undergraduate degree from Indiana University as well, majoring in journalism. While at I.U., English was editor of the student newspaper, the Indiana Daily Student. After graduation, he went on to become managing editor of the daily newspaper serving the Bloomington area, The Herald-Times. In addition to being a lawyer, Mr. English has been an educator and has taught classes at I.U. in advanced newspaper reporting and at Ivy Tech Community College in business law. He is also a licensed auctioneer and teaches continuing education courses at the Midway Auction School in Mooresville, Indiana, and around the state. Mr. English regularly appears in the state and federal courts in Indiana and was admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court on May 17, 1999.
